Creating social change is a challenge we take seriously. The Task Force on Anti-Racism and Inclusive Excellence has documented our goals, mission, and vision, as well as created charters on specific areas of focus.

Mission, Vision, and Goals

The Presidential Initiative on Anti-Racism and Inclusive Excellence (ARIE) is established to ensure that George Mason University, (Mason), creates an inclusive and equitable campus environment in which every member of our community, without exception, is valued, supported, and experiences a sense of belonging. The ONE Virginia Plan

The intent behind the ONE Virginia Plan (PDF) is to use the Inclusive Excellence framework to create collective impact, sustainable change, innovation, and productivity across state government and other sectors of the Commonwealth. Mason's anti-Racism, Inclusive Excellence Initiative (ARIE) reaffirms our commitment to growing and sustaining a diverse and inclusive learning, living, and working environment.

Task Force Committees and Members

University Policies and Practices Committee

This group will identify systemic inequities within Mason’s policies, practices, processes, and procedures to enable needed change. It will develop and implement an action plan for achieving meaningful, long-term structural change and accountability throughout the university community. Read the charter. (PDF)

Training and Development Committee

This group will enhance, develop, recommend, and integrate anti-racism and inclusive excellence training. It will work with the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution, as well as University Life, to assist schools and units with tailored training and workshops to meet individualized needs. Student Voice Committee

This group will allow for more input from student leaders from across the university on the student experience and campus climate. It will participate in a student engagement campaign and provide input into additional faculty/staff training beyond curriculum and pedagogy. Read the charter. (PDF)

Curriculum and Pedagogy Committee

This group will identify ways in which curriculum and pedagogy at Mason need to be developed, evaluated, refined or expanded to meet the standard of antiracism. It will  identify what curriculum needs to be added, and what processes and supports need to be developed to provide assessment, oversight and remedy where problems exist. Read the charter. (PDF)

Research Committee

This group will promote an inclusive community that advances the meaningful contributions of diverse perspectives and views to the research, scholarship and creative activities of the campus community. It will establish guidelines and work with colleges and schools to promote diversity and inclusion in all areas of research, scholarship and creative activities across campus. Campus and Community Engagement Committee

This group will develop, implement, and support programs that promote access, diversity, equity, and inclusion through campus and community partnerships. It will establish guidance for engaging the university and broader communities in the ARIE work. Read the charter. (PDF)
